Shooting yourself in the foot when Unicorn hunting?

It is fascinating how people often look for solutions outside of a system, while ignoring the inherent flaws within the system itself. For instance, many companies aim to hire creative and independent-minded team leaders, yet their selection processes often compel candidates to jump through numerous hoops. Such a selection process, being problematic in itself, tends to eliminate outstanding candidates, leaving only the mediocre ones willing to accept these challenges.

A similar pattern is noticeable in the realm of relationships. While some individuals express a desire for an independent, strong, and bright partner, those with nonconforming personalities often find themselves quickly dismissed by the very criteria used to select them.
